Transfer News: Marco Asensio on AS Roma radar

AS Roma are reportedly considering a €30 million move for Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from AS Roma over a move in the January transfer window. The Serie A giants are prepared to offer an initial €30 million plus €10 million in bonus payments to land the Real Madrid midfielder.

Marco Asensio joined Real Madrid from RCD Mallorca in 2014 and has since made some massive progress in his career, even if he has not been consistent enough of late. 2016/17 proved to be the breakthrough campaign for the 25-year-old, who has come leaps and bounds since then.

However, as iterated earlier, consistency has been a major issue for the Spaniard, especially since his return from a long-term knee injury last year. As a result, Asensio has had to suffice with a rotation role of late at Real Madrid, although a hat-trick against his former club this week has taken his tally for the season to three goals in six appearances.

The reduction in his role seems to have piqued the interest of Jose Mourinho, who is now plotting a raid on his former employers in the January transfer window. And the report mentions that AS Roma are willing to offer an initial €30 million to swoop him away from Real Madrid this winter.

The interest from the Serie A giants is interesting considering Mourinho already has a fair few wide attacking options in Nicolo Zaniolo, Stephan El Shaarawy and Carles Perez. However, Perez has become a bit-part player for Roma and was even linked with a potential summer exit before a move failed to materialise.

Keeping that in mind, Asensio is a viable target for the Giallorossi, whose potential €30 million plus €10 million offer is likely to be considered by Real Madrid in January. Apart from Roma, fellow Serie A heavyweights AC Milan and Arsenal have also shown interest in Real Madrid.

Asensio, though, would be hoping that his recent hat-trick against Mallorca can help him turn his fortunes around at Real Madrid. If not, it will be interesting to see whether Roma can land him in a January move for around €30 million.
