Transfer News: Real Madrid interested in Trent Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid are reportedly weighing up the possibility of signing Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid are pondering a move for a right-back in next summer’s transfer window. To that end, the Spanish giants have set their sights on Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold as one of the options on their radar.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best full-backs on show in Europe since breaking into the Liverpool first-team setup half a decade ago. Aged just 18 at the time, the English defender instantly showed glimpses of what was to come in future, and his upward trajectory has been continuous.

To date, Alexander-Arnold has played 184 times for Liverpool, impressively chipping in with 10 goals and 47 assists in the process while having played a key role in their trophy-laden success in recent times. His progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid among the clubs that have been closely monitoring the 22-year-old for quite some time now.

Real Madrid currently have just one natural right-back in the first-team setup in Dani Carvajal, who has long been a stalwart for the club. However, in the past year or so, the Spaniard has been struggling with a raft of fitness issues, and is currently on the sidelines as well.

With Alvaro Odriozola loaned out to Fiorentina, Lucas Vazquez is the only other recognised option at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, with the Spaniard himself a makeshift right-back at best. So, it is understandable why Real Madrid would want to enter the transfer market for a right-back next summer, especially with Odriozola being linked with a permanent exit.

To that end, the Merengues have already been linked with Denzel Dumfries, who has been a target for Ancelotti for some time now. And now, three other right-backs have emerged on Real Madrid’s radar, with Liverpool ace Alexander-Arnold being one of these targets.

What now remains to be seen is if Los Blancos indeed seriously look to bolster their right-back options in next summer’s transfer window. If so, it will not be too surprising to see them attempting to prise Alexander-Arnold away from Liverpool.
