Transfer News: Arsenal, Manchester United set to step up interest in Florian Wirtz

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal and Manchester United are set to head to go head in the race to sign Florian Wirtz, who is set to cost around €40-50 million.

According to Transfer Market Web, Arsenal and Manchester United are prepared to make a summer swoop for Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen whizkid is the next big talent in German football alongside Jamal Musiala and his rapid rise to prominence has put a host of top clubs on red alert.

Leverkusen are believed to be open to a sale for Wirtz next summer, but the player is expected to cost somewhere in the region of €40-50 million. Arsenal and Manchester United are among the clubs contemplating making a move, although they should face stiff competition from Bayern Munich while Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the youngster.

Wirtz is enjoying an excellent season with Leverkusen so far, under the tutelage of new coach Gerardo Seoane. After being involved in 11 goals last term, the youngster has already hit the ground running this time around, scoring three goals while providing four assists in just four matches, recently starring in the win over VfB Stuttgart.

Arsenal view the 18-year-old as an ideal long-term prospect, someone who can compete with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe and Martin Odegaard, further enhancing the club’s creative department.

The Gunners have been recently linked with a move for Noa Lang, but Wirtz offers much more to his game, making him one of the most sought-after players in Europe.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are on the hunt for a new creative player to replace the ageing Juan Mata. The Red Devils do already have the likes of Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood in their ranks, which might make Old Trafford a questionable destination for Wirtz.

However, it is apparent that van de Beek has no future at the club and was recently courted by Inter while Greenwood could be asked to play the central role once Cristiano Ronaldo hangs up his boots.

But that won’t be happening anytime soon, which does make Bayern Munich the most likely destination for the young Leverkusen attacker as he looks to replace Thomas Muller in the Bavarian camp.
