Transfer News: Barcelona ready €70 million offer for Dani Olmo

Barcelona are reportedly willing to fork out €70 million to secure the services of 23-year-old former La Masia ace Dani Olmo in January.

According to a report by Catalan outlet Esport3, Barcelona are readying an offer worth €70 million to re-sign Dani Olmo in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old former La Masia prospect has recently spoken up about his failed move to Camp Nou in the summer.

Dani Olmo has come a long way since choosing to call it quits at Barcelona as a 16-year-old back in the summer of 2014. The move to Dinamo Zagreb worked out brilliantly, with the Spaniard growing leaps and bounds while also emerging on the radars of some of the biggest clubs in Europe.

Olmo’s next move was to RB Leipzig in January 2020, and his upward trajectory has continued in the Bundesliga, with the 23-year-old racking up a tally of 12 goals and 13 assists in 61 appearances to date. His continued progress has caught the attention of Barcelona, who are eager to secure his services sooner rather than later.

In fact, Barcelona made a late attempt to land Olmo in the summer transfer window only for a deadline move to fall through due to a lack of time. The Blaugrana, though, are now keen on signing the Spanish international in the January transfer window, with talks set to be held between them and RB Leipzig.

Barcelona’s prospects of re-signing Olmo have further been boosted by the fact that they have agreed personal terms with him already. And now, the Catalan giants are taking the next step in their pursuit of the Spaniard, as they are preparing an offer for the winter.

As per the report, Barcelona are willing to offer €70 million to secure the services of the 23-year-old which is quite surprising to say the least considering their dire financial situation. However, it looks like Barcelona might well have reserved funds for one big transfer following the departure of their two highest wage earners in Lionel Messi and Antoine Griezmann.

Olmo, for his part, has recently admitted that negotiations happened late in the summer, only for time to run out for the transfer to be completed. He has also insisted that he is focused on the season ahead, although it will be interesting to see if things change if Barcelona table a €70 million bid in January.
