Transfer News: Liverpool ready to offer €100 million for Pedri

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to stump up around €100 million to swoop Spanish midfielder Pedri away from Barcelona.

According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Liverpool are serious about signing Pedri sooner rather than later and could well be ready to offer €100 million for the Spanish midfielder. However, Barcelona are determined to keep hold of their prized possession and are hoping to tie him down to a new deal.

Pedri joined Barcelona from Las Palmas last summer and has since made staggering progress in his career. While he was widely regarded as a promising young midfielder before his arrival at Camp Nou, the 18-year-old has still been quite positively shocking with the kind of levels he has shown with his performance.

That is why it is hardly surprising that the Spanish midfielder is already a key player for Barcelona as well as the Spanish national side. In fact, his role has grown so much that he has played close to 70 games in the past year for club and country. The player’s growth has also alerted a few foreign clubs who are now hoping to swoop him away from Barcelona, Liverpool being one of the suitors.

Liverpool had a rather quiet summer transfer window wherein they chose not to make too many improvements to their squad. Indeed, Ibrahima Konate was the only addition, with the Reds deciding to not scour the transfer market for a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp has zeroed in on Harvey Elliott as a potential successor for the Dutchman. While the young prodigy has received words of praise from all quarters, it is important to note that the likes of Curtis Jones, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita do not seem to be contributing much of late.

Add to it the fact that James Milner is in the twilight of his career and it is clear that Liverpool could perhaps do with one midfield addition. To that end, Pedri is a viable target for the Merseyside giants, who are now mulling over a potential €100 million offer for the Barcelona midfielder.

However, Barcelona are desperate to tie Pedri down to a new contract, with the Spaniard entering the final year of his current deal with the club. To their credit, Pedri does appear to be happy and content at Barcelona, meaning Liverpool could well have an uphill task ahead of them, even if they pay €100 million for him.
