Transfer News: Everton set to keep tabs on Daniel Jebbison

Everton to continue monitoring Daniel Jebbison. Will he follow in the footsteps of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and develop into a top-class striker at Goodison Park?

According to the Liverpool Echo, Merseyside based club Everton are keeping tabs on young Sheffield United wonderkid Daniel Jebbison, despite failing to land him earlier in the summer.

The Toffees have had a rather underwhelming summer transfer window, especially in comparison to those they have had in the years gone by. With Rafael Benitez in charge, they are now in the midst of a fresh beginning.

One of the players the Blues were keen on was Jebbison, who scored at Goodison Park for the Blades last season. Everton tabled an offer for the 18-year-old this summer but were rebuffed in their approach for the youngster.

Sheffield United were left unimpressed by Everton’s bid of £5 million. They were instead seeking out £10m, a bridge that proved too far for the Toffees.

Jebbison has since joined Burton Albion on a season-long loan. The Brewers are currently in the third tier of English football and could provide a platform for the teenager to shine at. He has already grabbed the attention of several top-flight clubs, and impressing at Burton could pave the way for a big move.

A giant at 6’5″, Jebbison has the physicality required to become a peerless adversary in the air. Add his ability on the ball, and it is clear why Everton are after the 18-year-old.

Benitez has a track record of getting the best out of tall strikers who can lead the line. He did the same with John Carew at Valencia and Peter Crouch at Liverpool. The Spaniard knows how to get the best out of his players, and potentially moving to Everton under his guidance could prove to be a pivotal moment in Jebbison’s career.

The Toffees boss is a fan of the player and could be set to watch him with interest this season. The lower leagues in English football are fiercely competitive and could prove to be Jebbison’s trial by fire.

Everton have struck gold in the past with their dealings with Sheffield United. Phil Jagielka proved to be a rock at the back while young Dominic Calvert-Lewin is developing into one of the best forwards in the Premier League. Whether Jebbison will follow in those footsteps remains to be seen.
