Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing Diogo Dalot and have made a loan bid for the 22-year-old Manchester United defender.
According to a report by The Athletic, Diogo Dalot is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund over a late move in the summer transfer window. The Bundesliga heavyweights have made a loan offer for the 22-year-old defender, who could be on his way out of Manchester United.
Diogo Dalot joined Manchester United from FC Porto in the summer of 2018. Hailed as one of the most promising young Portuguese players at the time, the 22-year-old also had an admirer in then manager Jose Mourinho. However, Dalot has struggled to carve out a spot for himself at Old Trafford under Mourinho’s successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
To date, the Portuguese defender has made 35 appearances for Manchester United, chipping in with a goal and three assists along the way. A loan move to AC Milan was mildly successful, even though he was not the first-choice option for Stefano Pioli. However, his stock has certainly risen, with Dalot capturing the attention of several clubs across Europe.
AC Milan have once again shown a desire to secure the services of the 22-year-old, who was also briefly linked with Real Madrid. And now, Borussia Dortmund are eager to swoop Dalot away from Manchester United this summer.
The interest from Borussia Dortmund is not too surprising, considering Mateu Morey is sidelined for the entirety of the 2021/22 season due to a long-term knee injury. With Thomas Meunier blowing hot and cold since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain, signing someone like Dalot could be a step in the right direction.
Dortmund seem to have quickly moved in pursuit of Dalot, who is reportedly also a target for rivals Bayern Munich. As per The Athletic, Manchester United are demanding a loan fee of €5 million from Dortmund, who have already made a loan offer for the 22-year-old.
What now remains to be seen is if Dortmund do agree to pay €5 million as loan fee, although it will be interesting to see whether Manchester United make a move for a right-back, seeing as Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the only other right-back following the loan exit of Brandon Williams.
Kieran Trippier continues to be linked with Manchester United and it remains to be seen if a move for the Englishman sees the light of the day. As for Dalot, he has emerged as a target for Borussia Dortmund and a switch to the Bundesliga could see the light of the day for the Portuguese defender.
