Arsenal might look to sign Andrea Belotti in this window if one of their strikers leave before the market closes.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal could turn their attention to Andrea Belotti to solve their goalscoring issues. The 27-year-old Torino centre-forward could be a cheaper alternative to some of Arsenal’s primary targets from Serie A. However, a move could be dependent on the futures of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Arsenal have made some good signings in this transfer window as Mikel Arteta undertook the rebuilding of his squad. Aaron Ramsdale was their latest signing, who joined Martin Odegaard, Ben White, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares. The club also tied down exciting attacker Emile Smith-Rowe to a new contract.
There have been uncertainties with a few of the strikers playing at the club. Alexandre Lacazette, who has missed the first two Premier League games after testing positive for COVID-19, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates. The Frenchman has a year left on his deal, and there are no indications of an extension being offered by Arsenal.
While Arteta likes the Frenchman and wants to keep him around, a move could be possible if a viable offer comes in. The likeliest possibility would be for Lacazette to stay because there have been no proposals forthcoming, and he could move on a free next summer. Atletico Madrid came the closest in showing interest in the Arsenal forward.
Arsenal always knew a move might materialise and have been targeting several high profile players as a replacement. The future of club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was also thrown in doubt, but his recent showing against West Bromwich Albion in the Carabao Cup might have convinced Arteta to keep him on board.
The Gunners were preparing for any eventuality and were interested in Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic. Both those strikers are expensive options, and having already spent nearly £129 million on transfers, Arsenal could look at cheaper alternatives to curb their spending.
Andrea Belotti’s name has been mentioned as an option. Once on top of every big club’s wishlist, the Italian striker has seemingly suffered a dip in performances. With a year left on his Torino contract, the Serie A club could cash in if a right offer arrives.
Belotti recently played a decent role with the Italian national side to win the UEFA Euro 2020. However, interest from clubs to sign the 27-year-old has been sporadic at best. Arsenal could yet look at him as he offers several qualities missing in their current strikers.
However, as things stand, a move for Belotti is remote at best, as Arteta could keep his current senior strikers for this season and plan on new recruitments in the area next summer.
