Everton have had an approach for Nathan Patterson being knocked back by Rangers. The Toffees had offered £5 million for the 19-year-old right-back.
According to a report by Liverpool Echo, Everton will need to raise their offer if they wish to secure the services of 19-year-old Scottish right-back Nathan Patterson before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Toffees have had a bid worth £5 million being rejected by Rangers.
Nathan Patterson joined Rangers at the academy level back in 2009 before subsequently rapidly progressing through the ranks at the Scottish club. The teenage prodigy made his breakthrough in the first-team setup last year. Since then, the 19-year-old has gone some way in carving out a place for himself in Steven Gerrard’s side.
To date, Patterson has made 17 appearances for Rangers, even chipping in with two goals along the way. And the Scottish right-back has been so impressive that he has ended up capturing the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, with Everton keen on signing him.
In fact, the Toffees have already submitted a £5 million bid for the 19-year-old defender, one that has since been rejected by Rangers. The interest in Patterson, though, makes a lot of sense for Everton, seeing as captain Seamus Coleman is approaching the final stage of his career.
As a result, Everton have been linked with quite a few right-backs including Aurelio Buta, Djed Spence and some others as well. The eagerness for such a full-back also makes sense because Rafael Benitez does not really have any other natural option at his disposal, with the likes of Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate among those previously utilised as a makeshift right-back.
To that end, Patterson is a viable target as well, with the player potentially also being a long-term successor for Coleman. However, with their bid being knocked back by Everton, it has come as quite a blow for them, and it is unclear whether they will table a fresh offer.
For now, Everton seem to have faced a setback in their pursuit of Nathan Patterson, with Rangers valuing him higher than £5 million. What now remains to be seen is if the Merseyside club make another bid for the 19-year-old and whether that proves to be enough to land him.
