Transfer News: West Ham make contact to sign Mohamed Bayo

West Ham United have contacted Clermont Foot, exploring the possibility of signing young talent Mohamed Bayo this summer.

According to Le10Sport, West Ham have made an approach in the pursuit of Mohamed Bayo. The centre-forward has emerged as a potential target for the Londoners, with David Moyes seemingly keen on securing the services of a new striker.

West Ham have already contacted Clermont, exploring the possibility of the move. They are facing stiff competition from LOSC Lille and Bordeaux but the Hammers are leading the chase due to their financial prowess over the two Ligue 1 outfits.

Bayo is considered a star figure at Clermont. His 22 goals and seven assists in 38 Ligue 2 matches last term were essential in helping the club gain promotion to the top-flight.  The forward has continued his good form in the top-flight as well, starting the campaign with three goals in just two matches.

The 23-year-old has starred in wins over Bordeaux and Troyes, helping Clermont Foot register six points in just two matches and remain at the top end of the Ligue 1 table prior to Matchday 3. Standing at 1.88m, Bayo’s imposing presence in the box coupled with his goalscoring prowess seem to have attracted the attention of West Ham as well.

It is no secret that the Hammers are in the market for a new centre-forward who can serve as an alternative for Michail Antonio. Bayo fits the bill perfectly due to his physical and goalscoring abilities that are tailor-made for the English brand of football.

The Clermont Foot star isn’t expected to cost a fortune either even though his current contract at the club doesn’t expire at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. It is a welcome sign for West Ham as they look to finally land an exciting talent after failing in their pursuit of multiple players this window.

Indeed, the Hammers have been linked with too many strikers this month, namely Gaetan Laborde, another one of Ligue 1’s rising stars while the highly experienced Luuk de Jong is also a potential option.

But in Bayo, the Londoners may find themselves an exciting young forward, who might be better fitted in the Premier League due to his style of play. David Moyes prefers a player that can offer the work rate, pace and stamina in the final third, potentially making the Clermont Foot forward one of the top candidates for the Europa League participants this season.
