Manchester United are keeping track of the situation of Lautaro Martinez, who has been identified as a potential replacement for Edinson Cavani.
According to a report from ESPN, Manchester United are already thinking ahead to a future without Edinson Cavani. The experienced forward is set to leave the club at the end of the season, creating a massive void in the club’s goalscoring department.
As a result, United have identified a couple of potential options that can serve as an ideal long-term replacement for the Uruguayan international. One of them is Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan, who is regarded as one of the top attackers in Argentina and the potential face of the future attack of La Albiceleste.
Manchester United are interested in making him the poster boy for their own attack as well, alongside some of the most gifted talents in world football in Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes.
Martinez has already become a subject of major speculations this summer, in the wake of Inter Milan’s financial crisis that has forced them to offload Achraf Hakimi and most recently, Romelu Lukaku, who completed a sensational return to Chelsea earlier this month.
Martinez is mainly wanted by Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are even willing to fork out £75 million for the Argentine, as they consider him to be an ideal replacement for Harry Kane. But their pursuit of the 23-year-old Inter Milan forward hinges on the future of Kane himself, with the club still determined to keep hold of the English international.
However, a bigger challenge will be to convince Inter to cash in on Martinez. Having already lost Lukaku and Hakimi, the Nerazzurri won’t be all too keen on selling another key player. Manchester United, therefore, are eyeing a move for him next summer when the contract of their current number nine in Cavani comes to an end.
The Red Devils have not been shy in the market at all, having also identified Kylian Mbappe as a potential target in 2022, with the Argentine international now on their radar as well.
Due to the grandiosity and the history of the club, Manchester United are capable of attracting any talent in the world, but having failed to win a single trophy in four trophies, it is imperative for them to win the Premier League this season, if they are to snap up talents like Martinez or Mbappe next summer.
