Transfer News: Crystal Palace face Wolves competition for Ademola Lookman

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly joined Crystal Palace in the race to sign Ademola Lookman from RB Leipzig this summer.

According to Daily Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath, the race to sign Ademola Lookman before the summer transfer window slams shut is heating up and will continue to do so in the coming days. Wolverhampton Wanderers are the latest club to show an interest in the 23-year-old, who is also a target for Crystal Palace.

Ademola Lookman joined RB Leipzig from Everton in the summer of 2019, having previously had a loan stint at the Bundesliga club in the second half of the 2017/18 season, when he managed to score five goals in 11 outings. However, his second coming at the Red Bull Arena has been a disaster so far, with the Englishman managing just 13 further appearances.

Last summer, the 23-year-old was sent out on loan to Fulham, and he fared decently, managing four goals and as many assists in 35 appearances, although he could not help them avoid the drop. Now back at RB Leipzig, the German giants are eager to cut their losses on Lookman, who does not have any shortage of suitors, with Crystal Palace and Wolves hot on his trails.

The interest from Crystal Palace makes a world of sense considering they hardly have any wide attackers in the first-team setup, especially with Wilfried Zaha being deployed centrally. The exit of Andros Townsend has only left Patrick Vieira further devoid of options, which is why it is imperative that the Eagles sign a wide forward, making Lookman a viable target.

Wolves, on the other hand, are in a precarious situation over the future of Adama Traore, who has been heavily linked with Liverpool and Tottenham in recent times. While Bruno Lage does have other wide attacking options like Daniel Podence, Francisco Trincao and Pedro Neto at his disposal, another option will bolster his options considerably, especially with Neto out till February, making Lookman a viable target.

However, both Crystal Palace and Wolves are looking to land the 23-year-old on a loan deal this summer. RB Leipzig, though, wish to part ways with him on a permanent deal, which could end up creating a bone of contention for the suitors.

Mike McGrath has also added that Lookman is set to become one of the most sought-after players in the final days of the summer transfer window. As for the interest from Wolves and Crystal Palace, it remains to be seen if they are willing to sign the 23-year-old permanently from Leipzig or if they remain intent on making a loan move instead.
