Real Madrid reportedly have a pre-agreement in place with Erling Haaland over a transfer from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, as relayed by the Daily Star, Spanish journalist Siro Lopez has claimed that Real Madrid and Erling Haaland have already reached a pre-agreement over a transfer from Borussia Dortmund next year.

Haaland has developed himself into a relentless goal machine since joining Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in the January transfer window last year. The 21-year-old has plundered 62 goals in 62 games for the Black and Yellows, putting every big club across Europe on high alert.

Chelsea had been heavily linked with a move for the Norwegian international this summer but were priced out of a transfer by Dortmund. Instead, the Blues ended up signing former striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in a club-record £97.5 million deal. The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City have also been credited with interest in the 21-year-old Haaland, along with Real Madrid.

The Merengues, who have had a quiet transfer window so far due to their financial issues, are in the market for a new centre-forward to secure a long-term replacement for Karim Benzema, who will turn 34 in a few months. Kylian Mbappe remains a top priority and a move for the Frenchman could be in the works this summer.

But it seems like irrespective of what happens on that front, Real Madrid look set to sign Haaland next summer from Dortmund according to Siro Lopez. “Haaland? What I know is there is a pre-agreement between Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and Haaland for the player to join Madrid in 2022,” he said, speaking on Twitch.

Having enjoyed a fine 2020/21 season, Haaland started the 2021/22 campaign in sublime fashion, bagging a hat-trick in Dortmund’s DFB-Pokal first-round win against Wehen Wiesbaden before being directly involved in five goals in their first Bundesliga fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Haaland has three years left on his current contract with the German outfit, which also has a €75 million release clause that kicks in next year, although recent reports from AS have claimed that Dortmund could raise that clause to €90 million based on his performances in the current season.

It would certainly be interesting to see if Real Madrid would be in a position to meet that clause given their current financial issues, especially if they go ahead and splash the cash on signing Mbappe from Paris Saint-Germain.
