Transfer News: Real Madrid eyeing Harry Kane as Kylian Mbappe alternative

Real Madrid have reportedly identified Harry Kane as an alternative to Kylian Mbappe, with Tottenham demanding €150 million for him.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Real Madrid seem to be turning their attention away from Kylian Mbappe, who is only likely to be signed in next summer’s transfer window. The Spanish giants now have their focus firmly on Harry Kane, who is valued at €150 million by Tottenham Hotspur.

Harry Kane has been nothing short of phenomenal since getting his big break at Tottenham over half a dozen years ago. Since then, he has only gone from strength to strength, becoming the single most influential figure for Spurs while also being promoted to the role of being the captain of the English national side.

However, the summer transfer window has been a tumultuous one for Tottenham and Kane, who is eager to embark on a new challenge, with Manchester City his favoured destination. However, the north Londoners have no intention to sell the English goal machine to a fellow Premier League club, which is why the emergence of Real Madrid could come to their rescue.

Real Madrid have been linked with Kane previously, but their priority has been to sign either Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland. In the past week or so, it has been suggested that a move for Mbappe could be in the offing, with a bid being prepared as well.

However, it is now looking increasingly likely Mbappe could be staying put at Paris Saint-Germain this summer before possibly leaving the French giants as a free agent next summer. With Haaland also only likely to be signed next summer at the earliest, Real Madrid have had to turn their focus towards alternatives to bolster their attack.

The eagerness to beef up the frontline is understandable as well, considering Karim Benzema has had to shoulder most of the goalscoring burden in the last few years. As a result, Kane is a viable target for Real Madrid, although it is unclear as to how the Tottenham goal machine and Benzema would fit in together.

The 28-year-old, though, will not come cheap, with Tottenham demanding around €150 million for him. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid are willing to meet Spurs’ valuation of Kane and if he is ready to join the Merengues instead of Manchester City. Tottenham will also need to loo for potential replacements, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin one of their options.
