Transfer News: Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo wanted by Sheffield United

Manchester United teenage prodigy Amad Diallo has reportedly emerged as a loan target for EFL Championship outfit Sheffield United.

According to a report from talkSPORT, Manchester United starlet Amad Diallo is being chased by Sheffield United over a season-long loan deal in the ongoing transfer window.

Amad agreed a deal to join Manchester United from Atalanta BC in the summer last year, with the move getting completed in January earlier this year. Having initially been asked to play with the reserves, the teenage attacker soon got his chance with the senior team and made a solid impression.

Amad finished the 2021/22 campaign with eight first-team appearances, in which he managed one goal and one assist apiece, showing plenty of promise and potential. While one would have imagined that the youngster could be set for a bigger role  in the new season, that has proven not to be the case.

Manchester United were finally able to land their long-term transfer target Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer. The Englishman’s arrival, coupled with the already existing options like Daniel James, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard has meant that Amad is unlikely to get much game-time at Old Trafford this term.

So, like fellow winger Facundo Pellistri, who left Manchester United on loan for Deportivo Alaves, the 19-year-old Amad, too, will be allowed to go away on a temporary exit. His availability for the upcoming season has led to interest from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace, with now Sheffield United also joining the hunt for the teenage prodigy.

The Blades, who were recently relegated from the Premier League, are eyeing a swift return to the top-flight. With a new manager in Slavisa Jokanovic at the helm, the style of play at Bramall Lane could be in line for a significant change this term, going by the manager’s time at Fulham, whom he did lead to promotion from the Championship not very long ago.

It was under Jokanovic’s tutelage that a certain Ryan Sessegnon flourished at Fulham, and Diallo could, thus, benefit by making the switch to Sheffield United, where he would stand a much greater chance of featuring regularly. It, however, remains to be seen if Manchester United are willing to let him join a second division club or seek a Premier League loan destination for the Ivorian.

What seems certain, however, is that Amad will be making his way out of Old Trafford for the 2021/22 season.
