Arsenal are reportedly considering a swap deal to sign Emerson Royal from Barcelona, with Hector Bellerin going the other way.
According to a report by The Athletic, Hector Bellerin is intent on leaving Arsenal before the summer transfer window slams shut. To that end, Arsenal are hoping to engineer some sort of a swap deal that would see them snap up Emerson Royal, with Bellerin going to Barcelona in turn.
Hector Bellerin has been with Arsenal for a decade now, having arrived from Barcelona in 2011 after deeming his pathway to the first-team setup at Camp Nou to be blocked. The move to Arsenal, though, has worked out quite well for the 26-year-old, who made his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in 2013 and has since gone on to amass 239 appearances for the Gunners.
However, Bellerin has reportedly decided to call it quits at Arsenal in the summer transfer window, seeking a new challenge in his career while playing in Europe with his next club. Initial rumours suggested that Inter Milan were keen on signing him, with Arsenal even prepared to offer him as part of a deal to sign Lautaro Martinez.
However, with the Serie A champions signing Denzel Dumfries recently, the interest in Bellerin has ended, leaving the Spaniard in the lurch. With Mikel Arteta all too happy not to utilise him either, Bellerin needs a quick resolution before the transfer window slams shut and the option of returning to Barcelona has now opened up.
Arsenal, though, would want to sign Emerson Royal, who has only arrived at Camp Nou from Real Betis this summer, as part of the swap deal that would see Bellerin rejoin Barcelona. As things stand, though, such a possibility is simply being weighed up, with nothing advanced at this stage yet.
In addition, Arsenal are also showing an interest in Kieran Trippier, whose pursuit is also in its infancy as things stand. As for potentially approaching Barcelona for Emerson, it is unclear whether the Blaugrana would respond favourably to such a proposition.
For now, the only thing appears to be certain is that Bellerin is eager to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window. It will now be interesting to see if the Gunners can land a replacement for the 26-year-old Spaniard as part of a swap deal, with Emerson Royal possibly arriving from Barcelona.
