West Ham United have reportedly entered the chase for Nahitan Nandez, who has a €36 million release clause and is a target for Tottenham and Leeds United.
According to a report by Calciomercato, West Ham United are the latest club to have joined the race to sign Nahitan Nandez in the summer transfer window. The 25-year-old Uruguayan ace is also the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United, with his Cagliari contract having a €36 million exit clause, although the Serie A club are open to selling him for a lower sum.
Nahitan Nandez joined Cagliari from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019 and has since been a solid performer for the Italian club. To date, the Uruguayan international has featured 72 times for the Islanders, chipping in with four goals and seven assists along the way.
However, the summer transfer window has given way to a tumultuous relationship between Nandez and Cagliari, who are now ready to offload him before the summer transfer window slams shut. And there is no shortage of interest in the 25-year-old either, with the likes of West Ham United, Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur keen on signing him.
The interest from Tottenham is hardly surprising, considering Moussa Sissoko is well into his thirties while Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele are facing an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. So, while Oliver Skipp made quite an impression for Spurs this past weekend against Manchester City, signing a midfielder like Nandez makes sense.
Leeds United, on the other hand, have long been in pursuit of the Uruguayan international, and for good reason, seeing as they are looking to take the next step in their evolution as a Premier League outfit. In addition, Mateusz Klich is on the wrong side of 30, which further makes someone like Nandez a viable target for Leeds.
Now, West Ham are the latest club to join the race to sign Nandez, who could potentially be an upgrade on someone like Pablo Fornals while also competing with Tomas Soucek for a place in midfield. And, after having failed to sign Jesse Lingard so far, someone like the 25-year-old could be an alternative, even though he does not regularly feature as an attacking midfielder.
Nandez’s Cagliari contract has a €36 million release clause but Gli Isolani would be open to offers around the €26 million mark, which ought to serve as a boost for Tottenham, Leeds and West Ham. What now remains to be seen is if West Ham can quickly steal a march on their Premier League rivals for his signature as we approach the end of the summer transfer window.
