Transfer News: Everton plot shock move for Lorenzo Insigne

Rafa Benitez is hoping to catch his first big fish in the market as Everton battle with Inter Milan for the services of Lorenzo Insigne.

According to Sky Italia journalist Luca Marchetti, as relayed by Sport Witness, Everton are preparing a move for Lorenzo Insigne. The Napoli attacker has emerged as a shock target for the Premier League club as they look to reinforce their offensive department.

Everton are joined by Zenit St. Petersburg and Inter Milan in the race to sign the Napoli captain, who is likely to leave the club in the summer. Inter have the upper hand for obvious reasons as they have been in talks with the 30-year-old Italian international for much longer.

Nevertheless, the Toffees believe they can land a deal for Insigne, which will certainly signal a statement of intent in a transfer window that has already given us a lot of excitement.

The Napoli forward has earned a lot of reputation this summer with his performances at UEFA Euro 2020. He was, in fact, one of Italy’s main protagonists in an excellent campaign that saw the Azzurri lift the coveted title by beating England. His exemplary numbers at Naples also speak for themselves.

Everton’s desire to sign the 30-year-old, though ambitious, stems from the uncertainty surrounding the future of Richarlison. Considered as one of the main attackers in the camp, the Brazilian is being chased by Real Madrid, now coached by Carlo Ancelotti.

The departure of the Italian tactician has also left another star player in James Rodriguez unsettled at Everton. Benitez, therefore, is hoping to fix this glaring problem in the attack by signing someone like Lorenzo Insigne this summer.

Although the Toffees might not seem like a desirable option for the Italian international, it is fair to point out that the attacker is quite familiar with Benitez. In fact, Insigne enjoyed the rise to prominence under the tutelage of the Everton boss during their time together at Napoli.

But at the same time, the lack of sporting prospects offered by the Merseyside giants may force him to look out for other options. Inter Milan, for one, could be an excellent destination.

The Nerazzurri are in the process of rebuilding themselves following the exit of Antonio Conte as well as the subsequent sales of Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, who recently returned to Chelsea. Insigne’s vast experience in Italian football, therefore, could be useful as Inter look to defend their Serie A title this season.
