West Ham United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign 23-year-old Serbian defender Nikola Milenkovic in a £14 million deal.
According to a report by football.london, West Ham United have inched a step closer to securing the services of Nikola Milenkovic. The east London club have reached an agreement with Serie A outfit Fiorentina to sign the 23-year-old Serbian defender in a £14 million deal.
Nikola Milenkovic has made steady progress in his career since joining Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade in the summer of 2017. A regular feature for the Serie A outfit over the last four years, the youngster has gone on to turn out 133 times for them, chipping in with 11 goals and an assist along the way.
His development since joining La Viola has invariably attracted a number of top clubs across Europe, especially in the last couple of years, with the who’s who of the Premier League being linked with him at one point or another. As things stand, though, it is West Ham that are the clear front-runners pursuit of the 23-year-old.
The interest from the Hammers is hardly surprising, considering Angelo Ogbonna is approaching the final phase of his career while Craig Dawson is also on the wrong side of 30. Furthermore, the future of Issa Diop is up in the air amid links to Leicester City, while West Ham also chose to release Fabian Balbuena.
In all this, it might even be prudent for West Ham to sign two central defenders on a cut-price fee, although Milenkovic for a start would be a step in the right direction. To that end, the east London outfit have reportedly even tabled a £14 million bid for Milenkovic, who is a viable target for them.
The Hammers initially wished to sign Kurt Zouma, who has since rejected the chance to join them. Duje Caleta-Car was another target, but Milenkovic has emerged as the most cost-effective option, with his £14 million valuation fitting well within West Ham’s budget.
Now, West Ham have reached an agreement with Serie A outfit Fiorentina over the transfer of the 23-year-old, who is set to arrive at the London Stadium on a £14 million deal. All that now remains is the official announcement, with West Ham set to welcome their third signing of the summer transfer window after Craig Dawson and Alphonse Areola.
