Transfer News: Real Madrid sign Jaime Vazquez

Real Madrid have reportedly completed the capture of 16-year-old defensive prodigy Jaime Vazquez who has been dubbed the ‘new Sergio Ramos’.

According to a report from Spanish publication Defensa Central, Real Madrid have strengthened their youth ranks further with the signing of teenage defender Jaime Vazquez from Sporting Gijon academy.

Widely regarded as one of the most promising young defenders in Spain, Vazquez has been making head turns with his performances for Sporting Gijon’s youth teams. Despite being just 16 years of age, the Asturian defender has stood out for the maturity he has shown on the field.

In addition to that, Vazquez has demonstrated impressive leadership skills, having captained Sporting Gijon’s age-group teams throughout his youth career, while he has also earned a reputation for being a great goal-threat in the opposition box. All this has led to comparisons with former Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who recently left the club for Paris Saint-Germain.

A number of top clubs across Spain were vying for his signing as a result, but it seems like the teenage defender has chosen to join Real Madrid and will be starting with the club’s youth setup this year, as per the report.

Real Madrid have shown a great propensity to bolster their academy ranks as well the reserve team this summer. The Merengues president, Florentino Perez, is keen on building a robust structure wherein the club itself produces the next big stars for the senior team, as a consequence of which top young talents like Bryan Bugarin and Adri Perez have made their way to La Fabrica this summer.

A number of other talented youngsters such as Manu Romero, Victor Munoz Villanueva, Mario Rivas, Jose Arevalo, Dani Martin, Ferran Seco and Ruben Montero have made their way to the Real Madrid youth setup this summer, strengthening the team across various age-group levels.

And, Jaime Vazquez will be the next in line to do so, as the 16-year-old makes his way from Sporting Gijon to Real Madrid. The lofty comparisons to a legend like Sergio Ramos are surely premature, but the youngster has shown plenty of potential and it now remains to be seen if he can fulfil it and establish himself at the first-team level for Los Blancos in the years to come.
