Arsenal and Everton are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing 20-year-old American whizkid Matthew Hoppe this summer.
According to Grant Wahl, Matthew Hoppe appears set to leave Schalke in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old American whizkid is the subject of interest from Arsenal and Everton over a potential transfer and the youngster could be on his way to the Premier League soon.
Matthew Hoppe joined Schalke in 2019 and took little time to break into their first-team setup. One of the rare bright spots in a season to forget for the Royal Blues, the 20-year-old managed a tally of six goals and an assist in 24 appearances across all competitions.
With Schalke dropping down to the second tier of German domestic football, it has long been mooted that Hoppe could be on his way out of the club in the summer transfer window. There has been no shortage of interest in the American whizkid either, with Tottenham among his suitors initially. As things stand, though, Arsenal and Everton are hot on his trails.
Arsenal are in the market for a striker this summer, with Alexandre Lacazette likely to call it quits at the Emirates. In addition, Eddie Nketiah is also being tipped to leave the Gunners, meaning captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the promising Folarin Balogun will be the only recognised strikers at Mikel Arteta’s disposal, especially with Gabriel Martinelli largely utilised out wide.
As a result, Arsenal have been linked with a number of strikers of late, with Lautaro Martinez being their latest target. And Hoppe, to that end, is a viable target as well. As for Everton, they are in a precarious position over the future of Richarlison, who is being heavily linked with a potential switch to Real Madrid.
This has given way to the Toffees scouring the transfer market for a potential options to be a long-term replacement for the Brazilian international, with compatriot Gabigol among the players being pursued by the club. And Hoppe is surely an option worth considering for Everton.
For now, Arsenal and Everton’s interest in Hoppe seems to be at a nascent stage if anything, and it will be interesting to see if the two Premier League giants launch the offensive for the 20-year-old anytime soon. The American prodigy, though, appears set to leave Schalke this summer.
