Atletico Madrid have reportedly joined Real Madrid in the race to sign 24-year-old Brazilian international Richarlison this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Real Madrid are not the only major Spanish club in pursuit of Richarlison in the summer transfer window. Atletico Madrid are also showing an interest in swooping the 24-year-old Brazilian international from Everton.

Richarlison joined Everton from Watford in the summer of 2018 and has since progressed leaps and bounds. A mainstay in attack for the Toffees the Brazilian has evolved into a well rounded attacker, managing a return of 42 goals and nine assists in 119 appearances to date for the Premier League giants.

The growth he has showcased has invariably captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs in the world and heading into the summer transfer window, with the player himself reportedly ready for a new challenge. In particular, former Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti is keen on a reunion at Real Madrid, with Atletico Madrid now joining the race to sign Richarlison.

The interest from Real Madrid makes a lot of sense, seeing as the Brazilian international can not only play out wide and add to the competition for the inconsistent trio of Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. but also be a backup option for Karim Benzema at the same time.

With Real Madrid in the market for a long-term successor for the Frenchman, Richarlison’s arrival could help mitigate that for at least one season or at least till they can their finances in check. And to that end, Ancelotti has personally contact the 24-year-old over a potential summer move. However, the entry of Atletico Madrid makes matters complicated for Real Madrid.

Like their local rivals, Los Rojiblancos are also scouring the transfer market for an attacking reinforcement amid suggestions that Angel Correa could be on his way out of the club. Joao Felix is also reportedly not in the most certain of positions at the Wanda Metropolitano, which is perhaps why Atletico Madrid are eager to bolster their attack.

Meanwhile, Everton, on their part, appear to be preparing for life after Richarlison, with Samuel Chukwueze among their options to replace the Brazilian international. And if the player ends up staying put at Goodison Park, the addition of Chukwueze will only bolster Everton’s squad further.

However, amid some serious interest from Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga develops and what valuation Everton impose on the 24-year-old. For now, the race to sign Richarlison has intensified with the context of a Madrilean battle for his services.
