Transfer News: Liverpool reignite Ismaila Sarr pursuit

Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a fresh move for Ismaila Sarr as Jurgen Klopp looks to shore up his attacking options this summer.

According to an exclusive report from 90 min, Liverpool have rekindled their interest in Ismaila Sarr. The 23-year-old Watford forward was linked with a switch to Merseyside last summer, but he ended up remaining at Vicarage Road, starring in his club’s successful campaign that ended with promotion to the Premier League.

Liverpool are now ready to revisit their interest in Sarr and are prepared to splash £40 million for his services. The 23-year-old himself is aware of the interest, even asking permission from Watford to leave the club.

It remains to be seen whether Liverpool’s £40 million bid will appease the Hornets, but if the move is successful, Ismaila Sarr will the footsteps of Emiliano Buendia in the list of players who have moved to bigger Premier League clubs this summer. The Norwich City playmaker had earlier joined Aston Villa.

A member of the Watford side since the summer of 2019, Sarr was one of their protagonists in their promotion campaign last season. He scored 13 goals while chipping in with ten assists. It made him one of the most productive players in the second division, alongside the likes of Buendia and Ivan Toney.

Much like Buendia, the Senegalese international has the pedigree at the highest level of football as well. Prior to his arrival in England, the winger had featured in 90 Ligue 1 matches while also emerging as one of Watford’s bright sparks in an otherwise dire 2019/20 campaign in the Premier League.

A move to Liverpool could make sense for Sarr as he looks to unite with national team captain Sadio Mane. The two play together for Senegal, which should help the 23-year-old settle in quickly at Anfield.

There is no secret that the Reds are in the market for attacking reinforcements this summer. In recent years, Liverpool have appeared overly reliant on the services of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. As such, they have been linked with a number of attackers, including Wolves’ Adama Traore.

Jurgen Klopp is ready to accommodate these wingers by cashing in on some of his unwanted stars like Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi. Shaqiri’s performances at UEFA Euro 2020 for Switzerland has already driven up his price tag, with Lazio among the clubs reportedly interested in his services.

However, with time running out, it won’t be surprising to see Liverpool getting rid of the Swiss international for a cut-price fee in order to make way for someone like Sarr to join in at Anfield this summer.
