Lazio are reportedly demanding €35 million for wantaway forward Joaquin Correa, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested in the Argentine.
According to Calciomercato, Arsenal and Tottenham will have to pay €35 million if they want to sign Argentine international Joaquin Correa this summer. Lazio want to make a profit on the winger and is ready to sell if Correa is not interested in staying put at the Rome-based club.
With the Premier League season less than a month away, clubs are busy with their transfer dealings. Tottenham and Arsenal are looking to sign players in multiple positions after both disappointed last term with 7th and 8th placed finishes, respectively.
Joaquin Correa is a subject of common interest from the North London sides, woth both looking at the player to strengthen their attacking line. Arsenal have been searching for a versatile forward who can cover the flanks and play through a central attacking position, and Correa might fit the bill. They might be looking at the Argentine international to replace Willian if the Brazilian leaves this summer.
However, their primary interest remains in pursuing a proper attacking midfielder who can play as a winger, and Correa might not fit that particular profile. Martin Odegaard was their prime target, but has chosen to remain at Real Madrid. Arsenal might still look at Correa if they are unable to complete deals for other targets.
As for Tottenham, their interest in Correa might be a bit more concrete compared to Arsenal’s. New manager Nuno Espirito Santo is looking at several attacking options to play in his new system. Spurs’ primary targets are strikers, with Danny Ings linked while they have also been offered Tammy Abraham of Chelsea.
In addition to that, a winger is required to fill the void left by Gareth Bale, who has returned to Real Madrid after a decent loan spell with Tottenham. Spurs will miss the goals and assists Bale provided and so want a proven player in his place. They also want to take the burden off Son Heung-min next season.
Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri is ready to let the Argentine international leave if he wishes to do so. The report from Calciomercato suggests he might be prepared to offload the player if his focus and determination do not remain with the club.
However, in the chance that Correa stays, Sarri is ready to play him on one of his wings. Lazio, though, are demanding €35 million for the attacker. The price could be considered expensive by Arsenal and Tottenham, although Spurs might still pursue him as he looks more suited to their style than Arsenal’s.
Correa won the Copa America with Argentina recently and is yet to return for pre-season with Lazio. More news about his future could appear when he returns to Italy, after which he could evaluate his options and decide on an outcome. Will Joaquin Correa be a good fit for Arsenal or Tottenham?
