West Ham United have reportedly made an enquiry with Scottish champions Rangers over the potential availability of former Arsenal starlet Glen Kamara.
According to an exclusive report from Give Me Sport, West Ham United have submitted an enquiry to explore the possibility of signing Glen Kamara from Scottish giants Rangers this summer.
Kamara began his footballing education in Finland before moving to England in 2011 when he signed the Southend United academy. Only a year later, he was snapped up by Arsenal, where he grew through the youth ranks and made his first-team debut in 2015 in a League Cup contest against Sheffield Wednesday.
However, that would turn out to be his only appearance for the Gunners, as he was then shipped out on loan to Southend United and Colchester United before he ended up signing for Dundee FC on a free transfer in 2017. The 25-year-old spent eighteen months with the Scottish club before Rangers came calling in January 2019, from which point on, he has been a mainstay at the Ibrox Stadium.
Indeed, Kamara has developed into a critical player for Steven Gerrard’s side, racking up 106 appearances in which he has four goals and five assists. The defensive midfielder was a regular feature in the side last season as the Gers brought an end to Celtic’s long-running domination in Scottish football by winning the Premiership.
Kamara then made a decent impression in Finland’s brief run during the UEFA Euro 2020 as well, alerting West Ham United. The Hammers are in the market for a new midfield enforcer as David Moyes looks to replace long-serving club captain Mark Noble, who has slowly been phased out of the first-team, with the veteran star set to retire at the end of the upcoming season.
Furthermore, there have been question marks over the future of Declan Rice, who recently turned down two contract offers, although the east London giants remain determined to keep hold of the England international amid rising interest from Chelsea. Nonetheless, with West Ham set to participate in the UEFA Europa League next term, ensuring adequate squad depth across all areas becomes important.
While a move for Alex Cral, Czech Republic teammate of West Ham stars Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal, had been considered, it now seems like Kamara has emerged as a prominent target for the Hammers. To that end, they have made an enquiry with Rangers about his situation and potential terms of a sale.
Former club Arsenal have also considered re-signing Kamara in the recent past but have since identified different targets to bolster their midfield unit. However, the report does add that the 25-year-old Finnish international has admirers in Everton and Brentford as well. It now remains to be seen if West Ham’s enquiry for the midfielder leads to anything substantial in the coming weeks.
