Transfer News: Real Madrid ready to accept €40 million Manchester United bid for Raphael Varane

Real Madrid are reportedly willing to accept a €40 million offer from Manchester United to part ways with Raphael Varane this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid appear to be coming to terms with the potential departure of Raphael Varane in the summer transfer window. So much so that the Spanish giants are ready to accept a €40 million bid by Manchester United, with an additional €10 million comprising of achievable bonuses.

Raphael Varane has enjoyed a stunning rise to fame and success over the course of his decade-long stint with Real Madrid so far. Now classed as one of the best defenders in the world, the 28-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Los Blancos for quite a few years now, turning out 360 times for the club while also chipping in with 17 goals and seven assists.

However, Varane’s future at Real Madrid has been up in the air for a few months now, seeing as his current deal runs out next summer, and there has been little to no development on the renewal front either. Such a situation has alerted Manchester United, who have been hot on his trails for a long time now.

Manchester United hold a long-standing interest in Varane, having attempted to prise him away from Real Madrid previously as well. However, with the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner having question marks surrounding his Real Madrid future, the Red Devils have been handed their best opportunity yet to land him.

The interest in Varane, who is keen on pushing through a switch to Manchester United, makes a lot of sense as well, considering Victor Lindelof has blown hot and cold under the tutelage of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. In addition, he also struggled with a few fitness issues last term, while Eric Bailly has also fallen under the same category all through his stint with Manchester United.

As a result, Manchester United have been eager to seal a move for Varane this summer, although they have also been identifying potential alternatives in case they fail to reach an agreement with Real Madrid over a summer move. It now looks like the Premier League heavyweights are set to succeed in their pursuit of the 28-year-old, with the Merengues ready to accept their €40 million bid.

As per the report, Real Madrid will accept the €40 million offer, if Manchester United are willing to include €10 million in bonuses, which would namely be “playing or being summoned to a certain number of games with Manchester United, calls from the French team and matches as a starter, among others.” What now remains to be seen is if United are ready to include such add-ons to inch closer to landing Varane this summer.
