Real Madrid are reportedly ready to fork out up to €40 million to secure the services of Mikkel Damsgaard from Sampdoria this summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Real Madrid seem to be stepping up their efforts to snap up one of the breakout stars of UEFA Euro 2020. The Spanish giants are prepared to offer up to €40 million to sign Mikkel Damsgaard, who is being tailed by a gamut of clubs across Europe.
Mikkel Damsgaard was already a player who had garnered a lot of interest following an impressive 2020/21 campaign with Sampdoria. However, his exploits at UEFA Euro 2020 seem to have left the who’s who of European football marvelled as well, having scored two goals and provided an assist in five appearances.
A player who can reprise virtually any role in attack and midfield, Damsgaard’s versatility is his USP and it is hardly surprising that some of the best clubs in the game are starting to take note of his talents. The latest suitor in pursuit of the 21-year-old Danish international are Real Madrid.
There are a couple of ways in which Damsgaard could be inculcated in the Real Madrid first-team setup. The youngster could either arrive as a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, seeing as he is capable of playing as a box-to-box midfielder.
Alternatively, Damsgaard could vie for one of the roles out on the flanks, competing with Eden Hazard, Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes, Vinicius Jr. and Lucas Vazquez. At the same time, the 21-year-old can even be a backup for Karim Benzema, especially seeing as Mariano Diaz is facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid now seem to be seriously interested in securing the services of the Sampdoria star following his performances at UEFA Euro 2020. As per the report, the Merengues are willing to pay between €30 million and €40 million to land Damsgaard.
Such an offer, Real Madrid hope, will stave off the competition for the Danish international taking them a step closer to sealing his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. What now remains to be seen is if Sampdoria are ready to accept an offer up to €40 million for Damsgaard this summer.
