Manchester City have reportedly identified Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix as a potential alternative for Harry Kane as Pep Guardiola eyes attacking reinforcements.
According to Fichajes, Manchester City are eyeing a move for Joao Felix. There is no secret that Pep Guardiola is in the market for a new striker, following the departure of Harry Kane in the summer. One of their prime targets was Tottenham Hotspur’s wantaway star Harry Kane, but his exorbitant price tag has forced the English club to explore other options.
As such, the newly crowned Premier League champions have set their sights on Felix. The Atletico Madrid forward has been identified as one of two potential alternatives for Kane, along with Antoine Griezmann. Manchester City have even approached the latter, but it appears the Barcelona man favours a return to Atletico Madrid.
In fact, Barcelona are reportedly in talks with Atletico regarding a potential swap deal that would see Saul Niguez move the other way. At the same time, though, it could pave the way for Felix to leave Wanda Metropolitano after two disappointing seasons in Spain.
The young Portuguese forward initially joined Atletico as a direct replacement for Griezmann for a whopping fee of around €130 million. But after two years, Felix has only been involved in 28 goals in 76 matches, with the attacker even losing his status as a first-team regular for Los Colchoneros.
There has been a lot of talk over Felix not fitting ideally in Diego Simeone’s tactical setup at Atleti. And with the Argentine tactician recently signing a contract extension at the club, the La Liga champions are more than likely to cash in on the Portuguese forward, especially if they can re-sign Griezmann this summer.
It has put Manchester City on red alert. The Citizens have not had much luck with Gabriel Jesus in recent years, whereas the summer departure of Sergio Aguero to Barcelona has left a massive void in the goalscoring department.
Recent reports do suggest that the English champions are weighing up a bumper offer for Erling Haaland, But Borussia Dortmund have appeared reluctant in accepting any bids for him this summer. So it won’t be surprising to see Manchester City shifting their attention to Felix.
The Portuguese international is not a proper goalscorer, but his technical prowess combined with his skill in possession make him a tailor-made fit for Pep Guardiola, as he looks to help Manchester City retain their dominance in English football next season.
