Leicester City are reportedly ready to make a summer swoop for Ozan Kabak, as they plot a €15 million offer for the ex-Liverpool centre-back.
According to renowned Bundesliga journalist Chris Williams, Leicester City have stepped up their pursuit of Ozan Kabak. The FC Schalke defender is widely expected to leave the club in the summer after the Royal Blues were relegated to the second division, leading to various financial problems.
Kabak spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Liverpool, but the Premier League outfit has declined to activate the buyout clause. Liverpool have, instead, opted to bring in another, more established Bundesliga talent in Ibrahima Konate of RB Leipzig.
Leicester City are now looking to take advantage of Kabak’s situation by securing his services for a cut-price fee. The Foxes have already contacted the player’s agents and are expected to come up with an official bid worth around €15 million this summer.
The Foxes do boast the services of Kabak’s compatriot in Caglar Soyuncu. So a move for the Schalke centre-back will reunite the two, even though neither of them performed particularly well in the recently-concluded UEFA Euro 2020, with Turkey getting knocked out of the group stages with three consecutive losses.
Kabak himself was not overly convincing during his short-term loan spell at Liverpool either. He was initially brought in as a quick-fix to a defensive unit that was in an injury crisis, and while the youngster did perform well, he did not do enough to impress Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
However, Leicester City are willing to give the Turkish international another platform to prove himself in the Premier League. There is no secret that former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is actively seeking out defensive options in the market, following the retirement of the long-serving Wes Morgan.
Soyuncu, meanwhile, is facing an uncertain future at the club, having recently been linked with a move to Barcelona and Manchester United. In addition, one of Leicester’s defensive pillars in Jonny Evans has struggled with various injuries, thus forcing the club to enter the market for defensive reinforcements.

Kabak is not the only option either, with the Foxes also eyeing a summer swoop for Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah. However, Leicester are expected to face stiff competition from Arsenal in the pursuit of the German international.
