Manchester City are reportedly set to face fresh competition from Wolves in pursuit of Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson.

If a recent report from The Sun are to be believed, Wolves have entered the race to sign Antonee Robinson. It appears new coach Bruno Lage is hoping to bolster his options in the full-back department, with the Fulham star being identified as an ideal option.

Robinson has been largely targeted by Manchester City this summer as a potential replacement for Benjamin Mendy. Wolves value the 23-year-old left-back at around £10 million, but it remains to be seen whether or not they are expected to invest more than that.

The West Midlands outfit have not had much luck with full-backs recently, especially after the departure of Matt Doherty to Tottenham last summer. New signing Nelson Semedo is yet to impress, whereas the likes of Jonny Otto, Marcal and Rayan Alt-Nouri have been on and off.

Manchester City are suffering from a similar dilemma at left-back. Their primary left-back, Benjamin Mendy, has fallen out of favour and is now targeted by Inter Milan in the summer. It has forced Pep Guardiola to largely rely on Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo. As such, he is ready to sign a cost-effective alternative, with Robinson identified as the desired target.

A product of the Everton youth academy, Robinson was one of the rising stars at Fulham last season. He became a first-team regular under the leadership of Scott Parker, providing a lot of attacking support out wide. In addition to his offensive work, the American international has offered a substantial defensive work rate as well.

Robinson made a total of 28 Premier League appearances for Fulham, failing to involve himself in a single goal directly. But his all-round game appears to have impress Pep Guardiola. Recently linked with Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara, there is no doubt that Manchester City are in the market for defenders this summer.

Robinson could be a smart, cost-effective investment to the team that typically likes to spend lavishly in the market. However, with Wolves also in the mix, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 23-year-old USMNT left-back as he looks to take the next step in his career this summer.
