Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on Liverpool attacking ace Sadio Mane, who is being viewed as an alternative to Kylian Mbappe.
According to a report by Spanish outlet AS, Real Madrid have created an extensive list of potential alternatives in case they are unable to land Kylian Mbappe in the summer transfer window. One of the fallback options for Los Blancos is Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, who would be willing to listen to offers from the Spanish giants.
Sadio Mane is one of the modern greats for Liverpool, having played a key role in ending their 30-year wait to clinch their first Premier League title. In fact, the Senegalese attacking ace was perhaps the first in the line of game-changing signings that have transformed the Reds into the force that they are now.
To date, Mane has a fine record of 97 goals and 43 assists in 218 appearances for Liverpool. And while 2020/21 was a season to forget for the 29-year-old, there is no denying that he is still a key figure for the Reds. That is illustrated in the interest that he continues to garner from Real Madrid to this day, with Los Blancos still viewing him as a possible option to bolster their attack.
If last season taught those at Real Madrid anything, it is that they must address the chinks in their armour in an efficient and aggressive manner to reclaim their place at the summit of European and Spanish football. With Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. hardly being prolific enough, the Merengues do need a player who can take off some of the burden off of Karim Benzema.
To that end, Kylian Mbappe is reportedly the priority target for the Spanish giants, who have even prepared an opening offer to swoop him away from Paris Saint-Germain. However, PSG are not willing to part ways with the French international this summer, which is forcing Real Madrid to consider alternatives.
To that end, the La Liga heavyweights have compiled a shortlist of primary options to come in as an alternative to Mbappe, with this list including names like Robert Lewandowski, Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling. In addition, there is another list of further fallback options in case Real Madrid fail in pursuit of the aforementioned trio.
These options are namely Kingsley Coman, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. Each of these players are willing to listen to an offer if Real Madrid tabled one. However, convincing Liverpool to part with one of their best players over the last half a decade will likely be a tricky proposition. For now, Mane has emerged as one of the backup targets to bolster the Real Madrid attack and it remains to be seen if he leaves Anfield this summer.
