Transfer News: Everton make move for Haris Seferovic

Everton are interested in Switzerland striker Haris Seferovic as Rafa Benitez looks to bolster his attacking options for the upcoming season.

According to Portuguese publication Correio de Manha, as relayed by Tribal Football, Benfica striker Haris Seferovic could be the subject of interest from Everton in the transfer window. Rafa Benitez is in the market to bolster his attacking options, and the Swiss frontman’s performances at the Euros have caught the Toffees’ eyes.

Seferovic was a mainstay in the Benfica side the last term scoring 26 goals and laying seven assists in all competitions. At 29 years old, he may not represent great future value for Benfica, meaning the Portuguese side could cash in on the forward.

Seferovic’s impressive performances at the UEFA Euro 2020 for Switzerland has led to an increase in his value. Benfica valued the forward for much less compared to the €30 million they are asking for him now. How much clubs will be willing to pay to remain the question, though.

Everton have quite a few options upfront, although at least two of their forwards could leave the club permanently, leaving only Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their strikers. Both these stars play in the starting lineup and don’t necessarily have cover behind them. Moise Kean and Cenk Tosun are the other players who are expected to leave.

Kean is expected to make his loan move to PSG permanent, while Tosun is expected to move back to Turkey. That leaves new manager Rafa Benitez short on forwards. The interest in Seferovic is hopefully to fill the gaps and add more depth to the squad. However, it could also replace Calvert-Lewin, who has been linked with several top clubs this summer.

Arsenal are thought to be keen on Calvert-Lewin to refresh their striker options for next season. Chelsea could also consider him as an alternative to Erling Haaland, and finally, Manchester United are said to be interested as well. If anything is to materialise from those links, then Everton will need a viable replacement.

While Seferovic might not be of Calvert-Lewin’s calibre, he sure can add a quality cover to Everton’s forward line and experience life in the Premier League. The Switzerland international could be the able deputy Everton lacked last season since the departure of Tosun and Kean.

Seferovic could bring his vast experience at the club and international level to help Everton out. But considering his €30 million price tag, Everton might want to negotiate that down to a reasonable price. If Benfica stick to their demands, then the Merseysiders might likely look elsewhere and cool their interest in the 29-year-old.
