Tottenham are reportedly showing an interest in signing 31-year-old Miralem Pjanic, having already enquired Barcelona about a loan move.
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, the list of suitors for Miralem Pjanic seems to be growing. The 31-year-old Barcelona midfielder is the subject of interest from north London giants Tottenham Hotspur, who have submitted an enquiry to sign the Bosnian on a loan deal in the summer transfer window.
Miralem Pjanic arrived at Barcelona last summer from Juventus as part of a part-exchange deal that saw Arthur head the other way. The move, though, has not panned out as envisioned for any of the four parties. Pjanic, in particular, has struggled to settle in quickly at Camp Nou, having started just 13 games across all competitions.
Therefore, it is hardly surprising that Pjanic has some serious question marks surrounding his future at Barcelona heading into the summer transfer window. The likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus have already been linked with the 31-year-old, with north London giants Tottenham Hotspur now emerging in his pursuit.
The interest from Tottenham is interesting, considering they already have an ageing midfielder in Moussa Sissoko in their squad. With Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele linked with a possible summer exit, the Premier League heavyweights could be forced into the transfer market for a midfielder, which is perhaps why they have set their sights on Pjanic.
The eagerness to sign the Barcelona misfit comes directly from new sporting director Fabio Paratici with an enquiry over a loan deal submitted to Barcelona as well. Paratici knows Pjanic extremely well from their time together at Juventus and is looking to bring him to north London on loan.
Having said that, it is former club Juventus who could be leading the race to sign Pjanic, who is keen on returning to the Allianz Stadium in the summer transfer window. The Bianconeri want the 31-year-old on a two-year loan deal, although they will ask him to take a cut on his wages to make the switch official.
Considering Pjanic is keen on returning to Italy and Juventus in particular, it will not be surprising if he agrees to adjust his salary. Having said that, it will be interesting to see if Tottenham can usurp the Serie A giants in pursuit of the Bosnian midfielder, who appears set to leave Barcelona on loan this summer.
