Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos has reportedly received contract offers from Manchester United and PSG as he closes in on an exit from the Spanish capital.
According to reputed Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur on Twitter, Manchester United and PSG have acted on their interest in Real Madrid’s outgoing captain Sergio Ramos by tabling contract offers for him, with the Spaniard said to be favouring a move to France.
Ramos’s illustrious 16-year stint with Real Madrid will come to an end next month when his contract runs out, with the 35-year-old officially announcing his departure from the Spanish capital club last week.
One of the greatest defenders of the modern era, the veteran superstar seems to be having no shortage of suitors as he prepares for the next chapter in his career. Indeed, Ramos is being courted by a host of top clubs across Europe, with Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain seemingly at the forefront of the interest in the Real Madrid legend.
Manchester United’s pursuit of a centre-back is no secret as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is on the market for an established defender who can partner club captain Harry Maguire following the inconsistencies shown by Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly. Moreover, with Axel Tuanzebe pushing to secure a loan move away from Old Trafford, bringing in a new centre-half becomes imperative for the balance of the squad.
While younger options such as Pau Torres and Jules Kounde are being considered, Ramos, with his experience and winning mentality, can prove to be a handy short-term addition on a free transfer, much like Edinson Cavani, who arrived last year on a Bosman move. To that end, Manchester United have tabled a contract offer for the 35-year-old, claims Konur, although no other details of the deal have been divulged.
As for PSG, they have Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe as their preferred partnership at the heart of the defence. However, having failed to replace veteran star Thiago Silva last summer, they are looking at Ramos to fill that void with his experience and leadership as they continue their pursuit of the elusive UEFA Champions League success.
Like Manchester United, PSG, too, are said to have made a contract offer for Ramos, with Les Parisiens putting forth a package worth €15 million per year on a two-year deal with an option of extending it by another twelve months, while a big signing-on bonus is also being negotiated.
The update from Konur also claims that Ramos would prefer a transfer to PSG than Manchester United. It now remains to be seen where the Real Madrid legend ends up come next season.
