Barcelona are reportedly keeping a close watch on the situation of Italian international Lorenzo Insigne at Napoli this summer.

As reported by Spanish publication SPORT, Lorenzo Insigne is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are keeping tabs on the situation of the 30-year-old Italian international at Napoli, with his current deal running out in a little over a year.

Insigne has been with Napoli all his senior footballing career, having broken into their first-team setup in 2010. The 30-year-old was sent out on three different loan spells before he finally carved out a place for himself in the side in the 2012/13 season. And since his breakthrough campaign, he has not looked back, establishing himself as one of the best players on show in Serie A.

To date, Insigne has amassed 397 appearances for Napoli, scoring 109 goals while providing 85 assists in the process. The experienced attacker has also established himself as a full-fledged Italian international in the past half-a-decade or so while also inheriting club captaincy at Napoli following the departure of Marek Hamsik. This summer, though, he is a target for Barcelona.

Insigne is currently facing an uncertain future at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with his contract running out in a little over a year. As per reports, the 30-year-old is at odds with the Partenopei over the terms of a new deal, and such a situation has alerted Barcelona, who are in the market for an attacking reinforcement.

Barcelona have already bolstered their attack twice this summer by signing Sergio Aguero and, more recently, Memphis Depay. However, the continued eagerness to sign yet another attacking player is not unwarranted, considering Aguero is only a belated replacement for Luis Suarez while Depay is an upgrade over Martin Braithwaite.

With Francisco Trincao’s future at Camp Nou being up in the air and question marks popping up over the future of Ousmane Dembele, it is hardly surprising that Barcelona could be forced to dip their toes in the transfer market for yet another attacking reinforcement.

To that end, the Blaugrana have been linked with several attacking options, including Raheem Sterling as well as his Manchester City teammate Gabriel Jesus among others. Insigne, though, is a viable target as well, with his versatility being an added bonus as he can reprise just about any role in attack.

The duration of his contract also makes him an approachable target for a financially stricken Barcelona, seeing as his valuation could be slashed this summer. For now, Barcelona are simply tracking his situation at Napoli, and it remains to be seen if a move for the 30-year-old Italian international sees the light of the day this summer.
