Premier League duo Everton and Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian veteran Marcelo from Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Daily Mirror, Marcelo could be set to make the switch to the Premier League in the summer transfer window. The veteran Brazilian defender is the subject of interest from Everton and Leeds United and is tipped to leave Real Madrid soon.

Marcelo joined Real Madrid from Fluminense in January 2007 and has gone from being a teenage prodigy to a bonafide legend for Los Blancos. One of the pillars of the immense success that the La Liga heavyweights enjoyed in the decade gone by, the 33-year-old has turned out 528 times for the club, chipping in with an incredible 38 goals and 101 assists.

However, over the last two years or so, the veteran Brazilian defender has endured a sharp decline. And with Ferland Mendy establishing himself as the first-choice left-back in this period, Marcelo’s stock at Real Madrid has declined to a great extent. Moreover, following the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti from Premier League side Everton, it looks like Marcelo’s fate at Real Madrid is sealed.

The experienced full-back does not feature in the Merengues’ plans for the 2021/22 season, as per Daily Mirror. With David Alaba arriving as a potential left-back addition – he could be an option at the heart of the defence as well – Real Madrid are now ready to part ways with Marcelo, who is, in turn, being courted by Premier League duo Everton and Leeds United.

At Everton, there is hardly any quality cover for Lucas Digne, who has also been linked with a possible summer exit from Goodison Park. Leeds United, on the other hand, are being forced to dip their toes in the transfer market for a left-back as Ezgjan Alioski appears set to depart as a free agent once his contract expires at the end of this month.

With Stuart Dallas reinventing himself as an attacking midfielder this past season, it is imperative that Leeds sign a left-back and to that end, they have been linked with Real Madrid youngster Miguel Gutierrez, with Marcelo on their radar as well now.

As per the report, though, it is Everton who are in pole position to sign Marcelo, who will cost just £5 million this summer. And so, amid suggestions that Carlo Ancelotti could raid some of his former clubs to bolster the Real Madrid squad, Marcelo could be on his way to one such club, with a summer exit looming large.
