Transfer News: Arsenal, Newcastle United to battle for Tosin Adarabioyo

Arsenal are involved in a two-way battle for the services of Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo, who could be available for just £10 million.

A recent report from Daily Mail has shed light on the future of Tosin Adarabioyo. It appears the Fulham centre-back is likely to leave Craven Cottage in the summer, as the player has a release clause of £10 million, which can be activated within a month before the Championship campaign gets underway.

It has put several top clubs on red alert, with Arsenal, in particular, mulling over a potential move for Adarabioyo, who enjoyed a decent campaign at Fulham this past season. They are, however, set to face stiff competition from Newcastle United in the pursuit of the centre-back, whose release clause makes him a bargain option for any Premier League outfit.

A product of the Manchester City youth academy, Adarabioyo joined Fulham last summer in search of regular game-time. The defender didn’t require much time settling in either, forming a solid defensive partnership alongside Joachim Andersen, who is also a hot prospect in the market and a target for Premier League trio Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

The duo offered excellent variety at the heart of the Fulham defence, although they were unable to prevent the Cotaggers from being relegated. While Andersen certainly caught the most attention, Adarabioyo impressed, at times, as well with his defensive work rate, athleticism and fighting spirit.

Such qualities appear to have attracted the interest of Mikel Arteta as the Arsenal manager continues his quest to overhaul the entire defensive unit. The club has already confirmed the departure of David Luiz while the likes of Hector Bellerin, Sead Kolasinac and even the returning William Saliba are likely to be offloaded.

From a sporting perspective, Adarabioyo will not be considered as a first-team option at Arsenal. But, having shown a lot of promise, he could be an ideal alternative for the likes of Rob Holding, Pablo Mari and Gabriel Magalhaes.

At the age of 23, the Englishman has time on his side, meaning he can always improve his game. Not to mention, he has the experience of working under Arteta, when they were together at Manchester City. And for a fee of just £10 million, Tosin Adarabioyo could indeed be an absolute bargain for the Gunners.
