Transfer News: Yuri Alberto on Barcelona radar

Barcelona have reportedly turned their attention towards 20-year-old Brazilian forward Yuri Alberto over a move this summer.

As reported by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Yuri Alberto is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a move in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are currently monitoring the 20-year-old Brazilian forward closely and could soon approach Internacional with a potential offer.

Yuri Alberto progressed through the ranks at Santos before breaking into the first-team setup at the Brazilian club in 2017 aged just 16. The prodigious forward subsequently spent three years at the Urbano Caldeira Stadium before making the switch to Internacional last summer in a somewhat contentious transfer.

The move has paid off reasonably well, even though the 20-year-old has not been prolific in front of goal. Till date, Alberto has amassed a tally of 17 goals and 2 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. The player’s progress in Porto Alegre has duly been noted by one of the best clubs in the world, with Barcelona setting their sights on him.

Barcelona have already bolstered their attack this summer by signing Sergio Aguero on a free transfer. However, judging by recent rumours, it appears as if the veteran Argentine forward might not be the only striker to arrive at Camp Nou before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Indeed, with Martin Braithwaite hardly being part of Ronald Koeman’s plans, signing another striker could enable Barcelona to part ways with the Dane, with the said forward coming in as a replacement for him, seeing as Aguero is the belated Luis Suarez replacement.

To that end, the Blaugrana have been linked with Gerard Moreno, with Alberto emerging as a viable target as well. For now, Barcelona are simply monitoring the progress of the 20-year-old Brazilian forward while also weighing up the possibility of making an offer for him this summer.

The La Liga heavyweights, though, will face an uphill task in swooping Alberto away from Internacional, who have no intention of parting ways with the prodigious striker. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if Barcelona can negotiate a fee with the Brazilian outfit if and when they make their move for the youngster.
