Liverpool are reportedly inching closer towards securing the signing of Zambian forward Patson Daka from RB Salzburg in a deal worth €25 million.

According to a report from Transfer Market Web, Liverpool could be closing in on their second signing of the summer, with the Reds believed on the verge of completing the transfer of Patson Daka from RB Salzburg.

Daka has been with Salzburg since 2017, having signed from Kafue Celtic in his homeland, Zambia. The 22-year-old had to bide his time to become a regular in the side but has become the go-to man for the Austrian giants ever since Erling Haaland left the club for Borussia Dortmund in January last year.

Daka enjoyed a fine 2019/20 season during which he managed to score 27 goals and set up 12 more in 45 games in all competitions. The forward went on to better his tally in the 2020/21 campaign, ending with a stunning tally of 34 goals and 12 assists from 42 games. He also has seven goals from 22 appearances for the Zambian national team.

Daka’s exploits for club and country have put him on the radars of several top clubs across Europe, including Liverpool and their Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal. In addition Chelsea, as well as Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund, are said to have shown an interest in the striker. However, it is now being claimed that Liverpool are all set to beat all their competitors for the 22-year-old’s signing.

Liverpool’s need for a new attacker stemmed from the fact that both Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane endured underwhelming campaigns in 2020/21. This left Mohamed Salah to do the heavy-lifting in attack, with little support coming from those around him, although summer signing Diogo Jota did make valuable contributions.

Nevertheless, with Liverpool looking to reclaim the Premier League crown next season, it becomes imperative that they strengthen their attacking unit, especially with the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri being linked with summer exits, which would leave the Merseysiders without enough depth in the squad.

Daka, to that end, can be a very useful addition for Liverpool, considering the form that he has shown over the past couple of seasons. And, if the aforementioned report is to be believed, the Reds are close to completing the signing for the Zambian striker in a deal worth just €25 million, which could be quite the bargain.

Having already snapped up the transfer of Ibrahima Konate, it seems like Liverpool are intent on getting their transfer business wrapped up early. It now remains to be seen if they do capture Daka’s signing in the coming days.
