Transfer News: Tottenham ready to pay up to €35 million to sign Anthony Martial

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to stump up €35 million to secure the services of Anthony Martial from Manchester United.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Tottenham are ready to pay up to €35 million to sign Anthony Martial in the summer transfer window. Manchester United, though, want to recoup around €40 million to part ways with the French forward.

Martial joined Manchester United in a shock big-money deal from AS Monaco in the summer of 2015. Since then, though, the 25-year-old has frustrated and excited in equal measure at Old Trafford, having ended two season as the club’s top scorer while going anonymous in other campaigns.

2020/21 ended up being the latter, with Martial only managing a paltry return of 7 goals and 9 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions. And, heading into the summer transfer window, the French international faces an uncertain future at Manchester United, with his situation alerting Tottenham Hotspur now.

Tottenham are currently in a precarious position over the future of Harry Kane, who was arguably one of the better players in Europe this season. However, after failing to qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or the Europa League, there is a feeling that Kane could call it quits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

To that end, Kane has coincidentally been linked with Manchester United, while Tottenham are having to keep their options open in the transfer market. As a result, any potential move for Martial makes a great deal of sense, considering he is well-settled in the Premier League and might not take too long to get settled down at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

In fact, Spurs are even prepared to shell out up to €35 million to secure his services this summer. However, Manchester United will only let Martial depart if their €40 million valuation is met by suitors, meaning Tottenham are just a short way away from the asking price.

What now remains to be seen is if Tottenham up their offer from €35 million, with a €40 million bid possibly sealing Martial’s fate. It will also be interesting to see if any potential sale helps Manchester United in landing Kane from the north London giants in the summer transfer window.
