Real Madrid are reportedly set to announce their first signing of the summer, with David Alaba on the verge of completing his Bosman move.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Real Madrid are set to make the announcement of completing a Bosman move for David Alaba this week. The official presentation of the versatile Austrian star, though, will only be completed later in the summer transfer window, until after the UEFA Euro 2020 is done.
Alaba is coming off an immensely successful spell with Bayern Munich, wherein he won every single trophy there is to win at club level at least twice. Over the course of his stint with the Bundesliga heavyweights, the 28-year-old made 431 appearances, chipping in with 33 goals and 55 assists.
The Austrian international, though, is leaving Bayern Munich as a free agent after over a decade at the club. Suffice to say, there is a lot of interest in Alaba’s services, with Real Madrid being linked the most heavily among a bevy of suitors.
Real Madrid could possibly be signing Alaba in a bid to replace either Sergio Ramos or Raphael Varane, with both the players being linked with a summer exit. Varane, in particular, appears to have played his final season for Los Blancos, with a number of English clubs hot on his trails.
Either way, Real Madrid, who are now set to enter a period of transition following the departure of Zinedine Zidane, need a centre-back this summer, with Eder Militao and Nacho the only other options available to play at the heart of the defence. Alaba, who excelled as a centre-back in the latter stages of his spell with Bayern Munich, is a viable target for the Merengues, to that end.
In fact, it has long been suggested that Real Madrid had reached an agreement to sign the 28-year-old, who will be signing a five-year deal with the Spanish giants. Now, though, a transfer appears to be a mere formality, with the official announcement expected to be made this week.
Alaba, who was in Madrid for some time this week, is set to join his teammates at the Austrian national side ahead of the UEFA Euro 2020, with his presentation slated for later in the summer transfer window. Real Madrid, therefore, have their first signing, as they face a summer of uncertainty.
