Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Antoine Griezmann and are willing to bid in the region of €50 million for the Barcelona forward.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Antoine Griezmann is the subject of interest from Liverpool over a move in the summer transfer window. The Reds are, in fact, willing to offer €50 million to swoop the French forward away from Barcelona ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Griezmann has been a stalwart in La Liga for the better part of the past decade or so, having spent five productive years each with Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid before joining Barcelona in the summer of 2019. The switch to Camp Nou, though, has not entirely worked so far, with the 30-year-old being a slow starter in Catalonia.

However, Griezmann has stepped up in the second half of the ongoing season and has a solid return of 19 goals and 12 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions. However, heading into the summer transfer window, the French forward’s future at Camp Nou is uncertain, with Liverpool among the clubs that are showing an interest in signing him.

Liverpool’s interest in Griezmann makes a lot of sense, considering Mohamed Salah has had to carry the goalscoring burden all on his own at times this season. Indeed, both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino underperformed this term, meaning that Diogo Jota’s impressive contribution has not been enough for a title challenge in the Premier League.

As a result, it has been suggested that Liverpool are in the market for an attacking reinforcement this summer, with Robert Lewandowski, Patrick Bamford and Dusan Vlahovic among the options considered. The Reds, though, now seem to have turned their attention towards Barcelona, with Griezmann emerging as a target.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner’s versatility coupled with an eye for a goal make him a viable option for Liverpool, who are willing to offer €50 million to Barcelona to secure his services. The Reds, though, could face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid for his services, with the current La Liga leaders publicly admitting to their desire of re-signing him.

Barcelona, too, could be open to the prospect of parting ways with the 30-year-old forward. Having said that, it remains to be seen if a €50 million bid is enough for Liverpool to prise Griezmann away from Camp Nou this summer, or if Atletico Madrid can keep him in Spain.
