Liverpool have reportedly joined the race to sign Robert Lewandowski, who is also a target for Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

According to a report by French publication L’Equipe, the race to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window is heating up. Liverpool are the latest entrants to sign the prolific Polish forward, who is also the subject of interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

Lewandowski has established himself as one of the very best players of his generation since arriving in the Bundesliga over a decade ago by joining Borussia Dortmund. However, it is following the switch to Bayern Munich in 2014 that the 32-year-old has really taken his career to the next level, with an astonishing record of 293 goals and 65 assists in 328 appearances for the Bavarian giants.

Along the way, Lewandowski has also broken a number of records and equalled Gerd Muller’s legendary record of 40 goals in a single Bundesliga campaign when he scored against SC Freiburg this past weekend. While he will have the chance to have the record all to himself this weekend, his future at the Allianz Arena is suddenly uncertain, which has alerted Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Real Madrid hold a long-standing interest in Lewandowski, having made previous attempts to sign the prolific forward on a few occasions. Heading into this coming summer, the continued interest in the 32-year-old is understandable despite the fact that he is on the wrong side of 30, considering just how dependent Los Blancos have been on Karim Benzema’s returns in the last few years.

In Lewandowski, Real Madrid will have one of the most clinical strikers in the game, although it will be interesting to see how the Merengues can fit in both the Pole and Benzema in one side. As for Liverpool, their interest in the veteran forward is more straightforward.

With Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane failing to support Mohamed Salah ably over the course of the ongoing campaign, it is not hard to see why Jurgen Klopp might want a new forward who can not only chip in with some valuable goals but do so on a weekly basis. To that end, Liverpool have been reported to be in the market for an attacking reinforcement with Lewandowski a viable target.

However, Liverpool and Real Madrid are not the only clubs in pursuit of Lewandowski, with PSG also keeping a keen eye on his situation at Bayern Munich amid the precarious situation over the future of Kylian Mbappe. Meanwhile, Manchester City and Chelsea have also been linked with the Polish international and it will be interesting to see if any of the suitors can swoop him away from Bayern Munich this summer.
