Edinson Cavani is set to start again, while Mason Greenwood will be on the bench when Manchester United face Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester United will be hoping to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they play hosts to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. And, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not have any fresh injury concerns to deal with ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Phil Jones and Anthony Martial continue to be sidelined due to their respective knee injuries, but otherwise, the Manchester United boss has a full-strength squad at his disposal. Speaking to the Manchester United media, Solskjaer provided a general team news update ahead of the Liverpool clash.
“No it doesn’t look like we got any bad injuries. Obviously the first morning [after] you’re tired. The second day you feel if there is any longer effects on your body – I needed a few days towards the end of my career to recover from games like that [Roma]! I don’t think you can take anything for granted in any game. We have to wait until Sunday morning to see how the players are.”
Solskjaer is likely to keep changes to a bare minimum considering the stature of the game, with the rotations likely to kick in when Manchester United face AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League semi-final second leg next week. That being said, Dean Henderson is expected to start in place of David de Gea in goal, as has been the case in recent league games.
As for defence, Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof will continue to pair up at the heart of Manchester United’s backline, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw picking themselves as the two full-backs. Alex Telles and Eric Bailly will be backup defensive options against Liverpool for Solskjaer.
Up ahead in midfield, there is no looking past Scott McTominay and Fred in the double pivot, as has become customary in big games for Manchester United. Bruno Fernandes will reprise his usual no. 10 role, meaning Donny van de Beek will be an option off the bench.
The starting lineups in big game also have Paul Pogba on the left flank, and that should be the case once again versus Liverpool. As a result, Marcus Rashford picks himself on the right wing. The final spot will be contested between Edinson Cavani, who looks set to stay put at Manchester United, and Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood has started ahead of Cavani in recent Premier League games, but following a brilliant performance against AS Roma, the veteran Uruguayan striker could get the nod to lead the line for Manchester United against Liverpool.
Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; McTominay, Fred; Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani
