Transfer News: Manchester United eyeing Samu Chukwueze as Jadon Sancho alternative

Manchester United reportedly view Samu Chukwueze as a potential alternative for Jadon Sancho, who remains their priority target.

According to an exclusive report by 90 min, Jadon Sancho continues to be the priority target for Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window. However, the Premier League giants are keeping their options open, with Samu Chukwueze identified as a potential alternative.

That Manchester United have been keen on signing Sancho has been common knowledge for quite some time now. In fact, the English international had been the priority target for the Red Devils last summer before a move failed to materialise as they failed to reach an agreement with Borussia Dortmund over a transfer fee for the 21-year-old.

Ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, the links with Sancho have reappeared and it looks like Manchester United might have reignited their pursuit of the promising forward for good. That is what the report by 90 min appears to suggest as well, with the English heavyweights hopeful of securing his services this time around, especially if Dortmund miss out on Champions League.

However, unlike last summer, Manchester United are keeping their options open, with alternatives being lined up in case they are unable to land Sancho. To that end, a move for Pedro Neto has been previously mooted and as per the report, Villarreal forward Samu Chukwueze is a target as well.

Chukwueze has been with Villarreal for four years now and has become a key figure for the Spanish outfit. This season, the 21-year-old has turned out 38 times for the Yellow Submarine. And while a return of 5 goals and 8 assists might not inspire a lot of confidence, he has still managed to impress a great deal.

Manchester United’s interest in Chukwueze makes a great deal of sense, seeing as the long-standing issues on the right wing have continued to persist this season as well, especially with Aaron Wan-Bissaka not exactly being a marauding full-back. Mason Greenwood has been used quite regularly in the right-sided role, but his future is deemed to be as a central striker.

Amad Diallo and Facundo Pellistri are ones for the future, but are currently too raw to become regulars on the right flank. As a result, it is not hard to see why Manchester United are still in need of a right-winger, making Chukwueze a viable target. Having said that, a move for the 21-year-old Villarreal forward will depend on whether they are unable to land Sancho, and it will be interesting to see if they can sign their priority target this summer.
