Atletico Madrid have reportedly been offered the chance to sign Miralem Pjanic in the summer transfer window by Barcelona.
According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Barcelona are desperate to offload Miralem Pjanic in the summer transfer window. To that end, the Catalan giants have offered the Bosnian midfielder to rivals Atletico Madrid, with a move to Everton also an option.
Pjanic arrived at Barcelona from Juventus last summer as part of the deal that saw Arthur make his way to the Allianz Stadium. The move, though, has not worked out as envisioned for the player, who has started just 13 of the 48 matches that Barcelona have played this season.
Having failed to usurp an ageing Sergio Busquets in the Barcelona midfield, the player’s stock has certainly fallen. And, it appears the 31-year-old Bosnian midfielder is set to depart Camp Nou after just one year, with the Blaugrana set to offer La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid the chance to sign him this coming summer.
Atletico Madrid could well do with a midfield reinforcement in the summer transfer window, seeing as Lucas Torreira is unlikely to be signed permanently while Hector Herrera is also facing an uncertain future at the Wanda Metropolitano. In addition, widespread reports have suggested that Saul Niguez could part ways with Los Rojiblancos this summer, with Barcelona interested in him.
To that end, Pjanic could be a player who might fit well at Atletico Madrid, giving the Colchoneros an added dimension to their style of play. However, the report curiously mentions that Atletico Madrid will not be paying Barcelona anything and will just have to bear the cost of his wages, possibly pointing towards a loan deal.
Apart from Atletico Madrid, Everton have also been mentioned as potential suitors, while there have also been murmurings over a possible move by Manchester United as well. However, the Barcelona midfielder’s stance over a switch to Old Trafford is unknown, while he would reject a move to Everton.
So, all signs point towards a possible transfer to Atletico Madrid, although it remains to be seen whether Los Rojiblancos do end up taking their chance to sign Pjanic. It will also be interesting to see if they sign him permanently or on a loan deal.
