Barcelona are reportedly among the clubs that are keen on signing Rafa Mir from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish publication MARCA, Rafa Mir is starting to become one of the hottest properties in La Liga as things stand. The 23-year-old Spanish forward is the subject of interest from Barcelona among several other La Liga clubs over a possible move in the summer transfer window.
Rafa Mir spent his formative years at a number of clubs including Barcelona before graduating from the Valencia academy. The Spaniard made grade in Los Che’s first-team setup in 2015, but only managed 8 appearances before being sold to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2018. The 23-year-old, though, could not establish a foothold at the Molineux either.
And, Mir has spent the last three seasons away from Wolves, having had loan spells with Las Palmas and Nottingham Forest before joining Huesca on an 18-month deal. It is here where the young forward has finally started to excel, having played a key role in the Oscenses’ late promotion bid last season.
In the ongoing campaign, Mir has been the leading light for Huesca in their efforts to retain their La Liga status, with a fine return of 15 goals and 1 assist in 31 appearances to show for his efforts. The player’s exploits have hardly gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Spain, including former youth club Barcelona, setting their sights on him.
Barcelona’s interest in Mir makes a great deal of sense, considering Martin Braithwaite is the only out-and-out striker in Ronald Koeman’s squad following the departure of Luis Suarez last summer. While Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi are options to be deployed centrally, the absence of a natural striker has been felt on a few occasions.
In addition, there have been suggestions that Griezmann could be on his way out of Camp Nou after just two seasons. As a result, the Blaugrana have been linked with a number of striker, with recent reports suggesting that the representatives of one of their targets, Sergio Aguero, were in Barcelona for talks over a summer move.
Now, Mir has also emerged on their radar, although Barcelona face stiff competition from the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla in his pursuit. However, Barcelona might fancy their chances of snapping up the 23-year-old, seeing as president Joan Laporta enjoys an excellent relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes. An intriguing summer beckons for Mir and his suitors.
