Manchester United have reportedly added 24-year-old Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves to their wishlist of targets for the summer transfer window.
According to a report by 90 min, Manchester United seem to have set their sights on Ruben Neves to bolster their midfield in the summer transfer window. The Premier League heavyweights are eyeing the Wolves midfielder as a possible reinforcement, with the Portuguese valued in excess of £30 million.
Neves joined Wolves from FC Porto in the summer of 2017 and has since gone on to become a mainstay in midfield for the Midlands club. Till date, the 24-year-old has amassed 170 appearances for Wolves, with 20 goals and 10 assists to show for his efforts.
However, heading into the summer transfer window, Neves is one of Wolves’ star players who could be offloaded, owing to the financial effects of the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, it has been claimed by the report that the Portuguese international could be allowed to leave for a fee in excess of £30 million, with Manchester United interested in signing him.
Manchester United are not prioritising the addition of a central midfielder in the summer transfer window, but are keeping their options open, and for good reason. Paul Pogba continues to face an uncertain future at Old Trafford, even though there have been suggestions that he could pen a new deal with the Red Devils.
In addition, with Nemanja Matic on the wrong side of 30, it looks like the time could be nearing to replace the veteran Serbian midfielder. To that end, reports have claimed that Manchester United could try to sign Adrien Rabiot in a swap deal, with Donny van de Beek heading the other way.
Christopher Nkunku is another midfielder who has been linked with Manchester United, but Neves is a viable target for the Premier League heavyweights as well. And, his £30 million valuation is not likely to deter United either. So, it looks like a summer move could well be on the horizon.
With Wolves open to cashing in on Neves, it seems like Manchester United could well fancy their chances of securing the services of the 24-year-old. What now remains to be seen is if the Red Devils do indeed bolster their midfield this summer and if Neves is the player to reinforce their squad.
