Tottenham Hotspur defender Davinson Sanchez is reportedly on the radar of Barcelona over a move in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Davinson Sanchez is the subject of interest from Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old Colombian defender is facing an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur.
Davinson Sanchez joined Tottenham Hotspur from Ajax in the summer of 2017, arriving at the Premier League club amid a lot of hype and excitement surrounding his burgeoning talent. However, in the last four years or so, the 24-year-old has failed to step up and deliver on the immense potential he showcased ahead of the move to the north London club.
Till date, Sanchez has turned out 148 times for Spurs going in and out of the side and struggling to nail down his spot as a regular over stretched periods. The same has been prevalent this season, with the Colombian international impressing in fits and parts. But, it looks like his inconsistencies could cost him his future with Tottenham; and Barcelona are keeping a close eye on his situation.
Barcelona have been reported to be scouring the transfer market for a centre-back ahead of the summer transfer window, and for good reason. While Ronald Araujo and Oscar Mingueza have stepped up this term, the two are still very much in the early stages of their careers and need more competition.
With Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti blowing hot and cold, something has to give, especially with Gerard Pique in the twilight of his career. As a result, Barcelona have been tipped to sign Eric Garcia on a free transfer this coming summer. However, the report suggests that the Catalan giants might look to sign a second central defender as well.
To that end, Alessio Romagnoli has been rumoured to be a target for the Blaugrana, and now, Sanchez has emerged as a viable option as well. In fact, the report adds that the 24-year-old could be one of seven players to be shown the exit door by Premier League giants Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho’s patience with him wearing thin.
For now, though, Barcelona are simply keeping tabs on Sanchez and it will be interesting to see if they make a serious move for him come summer. As for Tottenham, they seem to be planning for life after Sanchez, or perhaps Toby Alderweireld, with Joachim Andersen a target. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Colombian, though.
