Barcelona and Manchester United are reportedly set to rival Arsenal in the race to sign Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig this summer.
According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Arsenal are no longer the only club in pursuit of Christopher Nkunku for a move in the summer transfer window. The Gunners are now facing stiff competition from Barcelona and Manchester United in the race to sign the RB Leipzig star, with local rivals Tottenham Hotspur also keen on signing him.
Nkunku made an instant impact after joining RB Leipzig from PSG in the summer of 2019. In his maiden campaign with Die Roten Bullen, the 23-year-old had a fantastic return of 5 goals and 15 assists in the Bundesliga, registering the third-highest assists in the German top-flight last term.
This season, though, has been a slow one for the Frenchman, who has just 7 goals and 8 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions, although there has been a steady improvement in his performances. Nkunku’s stock, though, remains as high as ever, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona among the clubs keen on signing him.
Arsenal hold a long-standing interest in Nkunku, having also been in his pursuit when he was still at PSG. The continued pursuit of the 23-year-old makes a great deal of sense, considering the complications in securing the services of Martin Odegaard on a permanent transfer, with the Norwegian also a target for Liverpool now.
As for Manchester United, they could perhaps find a use for Nkunku either out wide or in central midfield, considering the uncertain future that Paul Pogba continues to face at Old Trafford, even though there have been murmurings of a potential contract renewal. The Frenchman, though, is unlikely to start as a no. 10, with Bruno Fernandes going strong and Donny van de Beek his deputy.
Finally, Barcelona’s interest makes a great deal of sense, with Sergio Busquets is in the twilight of his career while Miralem Pjanic is also on the wrong side of 30. With Philippe Coutinho tipped to exit Camp Nou this coming summer, Barcelona do need to be on the lookout for someone like Nkunku, who is, therefore, a viable target for the Catalan giants.
Apart from Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona, Tottenham are also believed to be interested in signing the young midfielder. For now, though, the quartet seem to be tracking his situation at the Red Bull Arena and it remains to be seen if any of the suitors launch the offensive for Nkunku come summer.
